Want to receive important emails in iMessage without constantly checking your inbox?

Actor is exploring an email-to-iMessage integration that brings selected Gmail and Outlook emails into your messages—with a short AI summary and a suggested reply you can approve.

The feature is in development. Here’s what we’re planning.

How would email to iMessage work?

Instead of forwarding every email, Actor would identify messages that need your attention and send a short summary to iMessage.

For example:

“Sarah needs your approval on the proposal before 2 PM. Would you like to draft a reply?”

The goal is to let you review a suggested response, request changes and approve it from the same conversation.

Forward Gmail and Outlook emails to iMessage

Gmail and Outlook are the planned starting points. We’re exploring controls that let you choose which emails reach you, including important senders and messages requiring a response.

Potential uses include:

  • Catching a client enquiry while you’re away from your desk.
  • Seeing an urgent request without opening your inbox.
  • Getting the key points from a long email thread.
  • Approving a reply from iMessage.

Can you send an email directly to iMessage?

Not simply by emailing someone’s Apple Account address.

Email and iMessage are separate services: an email address registered with iMessage identifies a messaging recipient, but it doesn’t automatically convert incoming emails into iMessages.

You need an automation or a service that connects the two. That’s what Actor could do if there is enough interest about this.

Is email to iMessage the same as email to SMS?

No. Email-to-SMS services deliver carrier text messages. An email-to-iMessage integration delivers through Apple’s iMessage service.
