Instinct vs Viktor vs Actor: Which Fits a Business That Needs HIPAA Support?
If your business handles protected health information (PHI), choosing an AI assistant starts with a practical question: can the provider support your workflow under a signed Business Associate Agreement (BAA)?
Instinct, Viktor and Actor all help people delegate work. Their focus—and the HIPAA information available about them—differs.

The quick comparison
| What matters | Instinct | Viktor | Actor |
|---|---|---|---|
| Main focus | Personal assistance and everyday errands | Team operations across business tools | Email, calendar, tasks and repeatable workflows |
| How you work with it | Text or call | Slack and Microsoft Teams | Ask Actor for requests; Studio for recurring workflows |
| HIPAA / BAA information | Not verified in the public pages reviewed | Not verified in the public pages reviewed | HIPAA support for eligible Business customers, with an executed BAA and approved configuration |
| Next step if PHI is involved | Ask for written confirmation of BAA availability and scope | Ask for written confirmation of BAA availability and scope | Request a BAA and review your proposed setup with Actor |
“Not verified” means the reviewed pages did not establish HIPAA support or BAA availability. It does not establish that a provider cannot offer it.
Instinct: personal help through conversation
Instinct presents a personal assistant you can text or call. Its examples include ordering groceries, booking travel and arranging everyday errands.
That makes it worth considering for personal delegation. For business workflows involving PHI, first confirm whether Instinct offers a BAA and which services it covers. Its homepage and privacy policy reviewed for this comparison did not establish that coverage.
Viktor: an AI employee for team operations
Viktor focuses on getting work done across business tools from Slack and Microsoft Teams. It is a useful option to evaluate when your team wants to delegate operational tasks from chat.
Viktor’s security page describes encryption, workspace isolation and SOC 2 Type 1 certification. Those are relevant security signals, but they do not establish HIPAA coverage or a BAA. Confirm both directly before using Viktor with PHI.
Actor: work assistance with a defined HIPAA path
Actor helps with email, scheduling, tasks and recurring work. Use Ask Actor for a request such as preparing a reply or finding a meeting time. Use Studio to configure work that repeats.
For businesses with HIPAA requirements, Actor offers a defined starting point: eligible Business customers can request a BAA and have their configuration reviewed before processing PHI. Coverage depends on the executed agreement and approved setup. It does not automatically include every integration, AI provider or communication channel. See Actor’s HIPAA information and Trust Center.
For example, a clinic evaluating help with administrative email and scheduling should first review the connected mailbox, calendar, AI processing and workflow records with Actor. Start with synthetic data while that review is underway.
What should your business choose?
Consider Instinct for personal assistance and errands. Consider Viktor for team operations in Slack or Teams. Consider Actor when your priority is email, calendar and task work with a documented route to HIPAA-supported processing.
Before introducing PHI, ask any provider three questions:
- Will you sign a BAA covering our intended use?
- Which features, integrations and subprocessors are included?
- How are access, retention, deletion and incident reporting handled?
A BAA is one part of compliance; your organization must also evaluate the setup and its own safeguards. HHS guidance explains the requirements for cloud services handling ePHI.
